Karen Shipp Kelly
President and Design & Sales Manager
Karen has lived in Richmond since graduating from UNC Greensboro with a BFA in Painting and Art History. She co-founded the company in 1983, and is the senior designer for both residential and commercial projects. Karen has served on the Board of Directors of our State and Local Nursery & Landscape Associations, the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Currently, she is a member of the JSRCC Horticulture Advisory Committee and the Virginia Green Industry Council. Karen is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist and a VSLD Certified Landscape Designer.
Carey White
Vice President and Horticultural Maintenance Manager
Carey is a Virginia Tech graduate with a B.S. in Integrated Pest Management. He is in charge of all aspects of the Horticultural Maintenance Department. Carey serves on the Board of Directors for Richmond Professional Grounds Management Society, and is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist and a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator.
Carol N. Pilgrim
Designer and Office Manager
Carol has a B.S. in Biology from the College of William & Mary, and has experience in many aspects of the nursery business. Her organizational skills, design experience, and knowledge of insect identification make her a valuable team member. Carol is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist, a VSLD Certified Landscape Designer, and a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator.
Dave Proietti
Landscape Manager and Estimator
Originally from upstate New York, Dave has many years of landscape experience. He is in charge of scheduling the installation work, checking each job-site prior to installation, and supervising the crew leaders during installation. Dave coordinates with the nursery manager and design staff to assure the highest quality plants and materials necessary to get the job done. Dave is a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator.
Vernon Stanley
Nursery Manager
Vernon has worked in all phases of the nursery industry from growing to installation. He is in charge of plant care and selection, quality control, and materials inventory. He is also an excellent mechanic who keeps our trucks and equipment in good repair.
Penny Seay
Designer and Horticultural Maintenance Supervisor
Penny graduated from JSRCC with a degree in Horticulture. Her first job at Shipp & Wilson was maintenance crew worker. Today her responsibilities include garden design and estimating for both maintenance and installation. She is also in charge of annual color design for both commercial and residential properties. Penny is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist, a VSLD Certified Landscape Designer, and a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator.
Mary Fuerte
Designer
Mary graduated from JSRCC with a degree in Horticulture in 2005. She is a garden designer and mother of two. She is a recent VNLA Certified Horticulturist.
